In one of our recent blogs, we covered the benefits of polyurea garage floor coatings. Just in case you missed it, here’s a recap:
- Our floor coating system brings a fresh, clean look to any concrete floor, including the garage where you keep your gorgeous ride (minivans count too).
- Polyurea is slip resistant thanks to vinyl chips that add texture to your floor.
- Want to keep your floor clean? Simply use a broom or a microfiber dust mop. For liquid spills use a paper towel or soft cloth.
- Polyurea won’t fill your house with an unbearable odor because it smells more like a freshly painted room than a toxic chemical. You can even have your floors coated in the winter when the windows are closed.
- Polyurea is heat and chemical resistant.
- No hot-tire pickup!
- 15-year residential warranty!
3 popular additives that add traction to your garage floor
While our floor coatings have an orange peel finish that adds a slip-resistant quality, there are also additives that can make your floor even safer. Not a bad idea, especially if your floor gets extra slick in the wintertime.
Let’s take a look at a few options:
- Ground polymer grit is made of very small micronized polymer beads that are soft to the skin and feet. When added to a coating, it becomes translucent so that it only adds traction to your final coat – no color changes. The polymer beads come in different sizes too.
- An aluminum oxide additive is used most in industrial settings because its rough finish
works in even the most slippery environments. While you can use it in your home garage, it can be uncomfortable on your skin and is a little more difficult to clean.
- You can also use a fine silica sand which leaves a gentle bumpy surface. You will need to use this additive with a colored top coat as it will show in a clear one.
Our floor coatings are not all about beauty–they are safe, too. Ask us about which additive would be best for your garage floor. We look forward to hearing from you!
