How Do You Paint a Ceiling without Any Drips?

Have you ever really considered painting your ceiling? And, beyond just sticking with the tried and true off-white, how about adding a fresh pop of color?

There’s a reason why the ceiling is often called the “fifth wall”; it can be used strategically to take the style in your space to a whole new level. For more information, take a look at our previous blog that covers how to find just the right color and sheen for your needs.

But for now, we thought we’d share a couple of tips for avoiding an extremely common frustration: dripping paint.

Why Does the Paint Drip When You’re Painting Your Ceiling?

Here are two simple solutions:

  1. Don’t Put Too Much Paint On Your Roller – Especially if you’re rushing to finish the job, it can be tempting to slather on too much paint. Less is actually more, in this case. Dip your roller in the paint, then roll off the excess on the slope of your tray so that there is just a light surface coating.
  2. Lessen Your Pressure – Even if you don’t realize you’re doing it, you might be pushing too hard against the ceiling. Keep the pressure consistent, but ease up a bit so that you don’t squeeze paint out of the roller and create those frustrating drips.
